“Proximity to power deludes some into thinking they wield it.” ~Francis Underwood, House of Cards
I write this piece with some trepidation. My greatest fear is Democrat Party apparatchiks may stumble upon it and learn from it, discover why their party is in grave danger of collapsing like a house of cards. I’d sure hate to do anything to stem the self-destructive path they’ve been on for 8+ years.
As one who follows Occam’s Razor (simplest explanation usually being the correct one), the reason Democrat politicians continue to lose elections is easy: their ideas and vision for America are so far left that voters reject them out of hand.
In the past, Dem Pols were smart (sort of). They campaigned from the right, fooling enough people into supporting them, only to govern from the left. Today they campaign with ‘in-your-face left-wing militancy’ complete with threats of violence for non-conformity.
Layer on top of this a party that has abandoned the middle class it laughably claims to have created and has instead vested its future fortunes in every rag-tag, disparate, disaffected, grievance-mongering fringe minority possible. The problem of course, is they can’t cobble a majority from these small groups, and even if they ‘reach them’ with message, these are people unmotivated to show up and actually vote.
Today’s Democrat Party is in denial. It clings to a series of canards about itself and those on the right that prevent it from seeing its own reality:
– FACT: President Obama destroyed the party, almost single-handedly. He lost the White House, the Senate, the House and a vast majority of State governments, some 1,200 seats. But the quintessential Marxist ‘Cult of Personality’ reverence with which the party holds Obama blinds it. Criticizing him is taboo (and racist, so we’ve been cautioned), which makes learning lessons even harder.
– The party’s playbook hasn’t been updated in over half a century. The chapters on racism, sexism, class warfare, homophobia, etc. are still consulted and dog-eared pages flipped to when they need to attack the right. Voters are aware of this reflexive shame game and tired of hearing it.
– Dems create memes they cling to, even when they backfire and the party’s propaganda arm – the mainstream media – are exposed as frauds promoting fake news. The Russian Collusion meme is one, and lately the idea that the left can use the 25th Amendment to push a mental incapacity angle to rid the White House of President Trump is growing legs.
– Instead of having a series of policies that appeal to voters, the party pushes a hardcore socialist agenda. Proudly so. The Social Justice Warrior (SJW) class has taken over messaging and anyone who can identify as a victim of something – anything – is whom it reaches.
Making things worse, the left has shifted its demands on society from a simple ‘live and let live’ philosophy to ‘endorse and advocate for, or else’ approach. Remember the good old days when you could disagree with someone on the left about, say, gay marriage? You could believe traditional marriage was the right way to go and few gave you a hard time. Today, it’s ‘bake the damn cake!’
You must accept as true and ENDORSE the left’s warped vision, regardless of topic. If not, look out. Your safety and security cannot be assured (just ask Congressman Steve Scalise when he recovers from the left’s assassination attempt). At a minimum, your reputation, business, and personal livelihood are certain to be threatened.
The left’s choice of political candidates is also pathetic. Hillary Clinton is a proven, consummate liar who is so cold and nasty, she just could not connect with average voters. Jon Ossoff, who lost Georgia’s special election despite a major ground offensive by the Dem Party, didn’t even live in the district he sought to represent. Oh, and his ideas sucked, too.
Does the Dem Party learn from any of this? Nope. Its reaction typically is to double-down on the stupid, pushing farther left into the realm of Marxism. It prefers to insult the intelligence of voters, to call them deplorables, bible-toters or gun-clingers, mocking them for their honest beliefs, rather than listening to their concerns and developing policies to better represent them.
When it fails at the voting booth, the left unleashes its militant wings. It used to be the KKK it relied upon to intimidate voters. Today it’s the SJW class on the softer edges of things, and anarchists and other agitators at the inner, violence-promoting core.
It engages in fantastical scenarios about impeachment, Russian Collusion, and mental incapacitation. These are false promises of relief from the ‘scourge of Trump,’ promises which will never see reality. This crushes the dreams of the useful idiots who march in pink pussyhats, vagina costumes, and gay pride fests-turned-resist movements. Broken dreams only serve to further agitate those prone to violence.
The rest of America sees this non-stop, Marxist freak-show and shakes its collective head, moving further away from the Dem Party each time. In contrast, the more GOP candidates can deliver on the messages of hope, prosperity, success, greatness, and world respect, the more they will continue to win in the voting booth. Eventually, the Dems’ House of Canards will collapse as it un-elects itself into obscurity.
Colonel Michael (“Mike”) Angley is retired from the United States Air Force, a published thriller author, and a conservative writer who fashions himself as Attila the Hun with a laptop. Mike wrote for Andrew Breitbart’s Big Government and Big Peace blogs before the Breitbart consolidation, receiving superb feedback and kudos for typically weaving in pop culture references with his far right perspectives. He enjoys writing about military affairs, national security issues, and politics and is an avid Second Amendment advocate. When he’s not writing, he’s busy annoying liberals with FaceBook posts and Twitter tweets that point out the obvious flaws and fallacies of the left.
During his 26-year USAF career, the Colonel was a Special Agent with the Office of Special Investigations (OSI). The OSI is a sister agency to the Naval Criminal Investigative Service (NCIS) and has an identical mission that includes felony-level criminal, fraud, and narcotics investigations as well as counterintelligence and counterterrorism operations. His USAF experiences spanned multiple regions around the globe with five command assignments and duties at foreign, regional, theater and national levels.
He is a seasoned counterintelligence and counterespionage officer from the Cold War era, and if you ask him he’ll tell you the spy-vs-spy days were indeed the heady, glory era of espionage. During the latter half of his career he focused on counterterrorism missions in the Middle East and the Far East and operationalized many of today’s concepts for this unique arena while working the sand dunes of Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and a few other “choice” locations. When Colonel Angley retired in 2007, he was a Senior Supervisory Special Agent and was in command of all worldwide OSI matters at Air Force Space Command in Colorado Springs, CO.
Mike Angley is also a published, award-winning author of three thriller novels in the “Child Finder” trilogy. His debut novel, “Child Finder,” received a glowing review from the Library Journal which placed it on its Summer Reading list in 2009. “Child Finder” and its companion sequel novels all won various awards from the Military Writers Society of America (MWSA) and the Public Safety Writers Association. In 2012, Mike was named MWSA’s “Author of the Year,” largely for work on his third novel, “Child Finder: Revelation.”
As an avid user of social media, Mike can be found and friended on Facebook (mike.angley) and followed on Twitter (@MikeAngley). His website is www.mikeangley.com. Following his USAF retirement, Mike and his family stayed in Colorado Springs, CO where they enjoy daily, majestic views of Pikes Peak and the Rocky Mountains.
