The Darkness of the Left

By Colonel Mike Angley

“Socialism in general has a record of failure so blatant, that only an intellectual could ignore or evade it.” ~Thomas Sowell

I am an unlikely conservative. I grew up in in the projects of Newark, NJ, not exactly a bastion of right-wingedry. My family was – and for the most part, still is – largely Democrat strong. I was politically-ignorant most of my early life and simply tended to nod my head in agreement with whatever I heard around the house. I would have made a good Democrat except I started to use my brain, a potent antidote for liberalism.

While my parents were Democrats, thankfully they were Kennedy Dems (the JFK kind, not of the far left-wing whackadoodle Kennedys to crawl out of the muck off Chappaquiddick since). There was at least moderation in my parents’ left-of-center views. When I turned 18, I registered to vote as a Republican mainly as an act of rebellion. I had no idea what either party stood for, but I was determined to poke my parents with that decision.

Then I went off to college. Although it was a small, private Catholic school, there were some liberal professors in a sea of more moderate to conservative academia (probably the reverse today, I am sure). One of my profs made a point on the first day of one particular semester that he would not tolerate conservative opinion in his class. That piqued my interest.

My thinking was straightforward: Why would a political perspective threaten him so much that he wanted to shut it down? If being a liberal was morally and academically superior, why not welcome the chance to bludgeon conservatism?

It got me to thinking and researching. My conservative perspective grew and was reinforced the more I learned the differences between the two schools of thought. What I came to understand was a literal light and dark difference between conservatism and liberalism. I also found many paradoxes that I still struggle to understand even today.

Like, how the left proclaims the mantle of acceptance, understanding, and civil rights stewardship, but has over a century’s history of racism, violence and intolerance. Slavery, Jim Crow, the KKK, Civil Rights Act obstructionism…all have Democrat Party, left-wing, liberal, progressive fingerprints and DNA on them.

The left embraces abortion – murder of the innocent — fiercely protecting a woman’s ‘right to choose,’ but defends the guilty on death row because killing heinous criminals would be immoral.

They claim Islam is a ‘religion of peace’ while dissembling its reality: murder, rape, pedophilia, violence, misogyny, and homophobia. In fact, Islam oppresses every special group the left pretends to care about, but they dismiss obvious evil in favor of the oppressors. Useful idiots, as it were.

All immigrants are welcome here, so says the left. Even those who rape our children, murder, run drugs or simply wish to infiltrate our communities to commit acts of terror. Vetting? That’s unnecessary, racist, xenophobic and just plain mean.

Our bathrooms are for everyone, even if it means pedophiles and rapists have easier access to children. A man can pretend to be a woman just to be near young girls, and that’s just peachy-keen since he’s allowed to identify however he pleases. If a child complains, then the child is the bigot. This is the sick, twisted mentality of those on the left.

Want to know whom the left idolizes? It’s a laundry list of brutal, murderous dictators or those of similar ilk: Mao Tse-tung, Che Guevara, the Castro Boys, Hugo Chavez, Lenin, Stalin, among many other infamous scum. Cop killers? They get VIP treatment.

World history is chock full of failed left-wing experiments: every communist and socialist regime eventually collapses under the weight of its own oppression (how’s that latest petri dish called Venezuela working out?). In contrast, the world has had plenty of examples throughout history where right-of-center governments and economies usher in incredible wealth, prosperity and opportunity for everyone.

By the way, ‘Democratic Socialism’ is just good old-fashioned Socialism repackaged, rebranded, and rejuvenated from the septic tank of history. That’s a Pro Tip for the useful idiots who are lulled by the left’s modern day Pied Pipers, such as Senators Bernie Sanders or Elizabeth Warren.

Thomas Sowell was right when he noted that only intellectuals can ignore or evade socialism’s history of failure. Perhaps that’s why it thrives in the halls of academia today where everything that is left and dark finds sanctuary and erudite professors need not bother themselves with reality.

The differences between the left and right are stark. It is darkness versus light, evil versus good, wrong versus right, immoral versus moral, oppression versus liberty, etc. The future under the left is cynical, cold, and marked by forceps and suction to those unlucky enough to suffer abortion, or a bullet to the head if they find themselves in a socialist or communist regime and on the wrong end of its tyrannical government.

Colonel Michael (“Mike”) Angley is retired from the United States Air Force, a published thriller author, and a conservative writer who fashions himself as Attila the Hun with a laptop. Mike wrote for Andrew Breitbart’s Big Government and Big Peace blogs before the Breitbart consolidation, receiving superb feedback and kudos for typically weaving in pop culture references with his far right perspectives. He enjoys writing about military affairs, national security issues, and politics and is an avid Second Amendment advocate. When he’s not writing, he’s busy annoying liberals with FaceBook posts and Twitter tweets that point out the obvious flaws and fallacies of the left.

During his 26-year USAF career, the Colonel was a Special Agent with the Office of Special Investigations (OSI). The OSI is a sister agency to the Naval Criminal Investigative Service (NCIS) and has an identical mission that includes felony-level criminal, fraud, and narcotics investigations as well as counterintelligence and counterterrorism operations. His USAF experiences spanned multiple regions around the globe with five command assignments and duties at foreign, regional, theater and national levels.

He is a seasoned counterintelligence and counterespionage officer from the Cold War era, and if you ask him he’ll tell you the spy-vs-spy days were indeed the heady, glory era of espionage. During the latter half of his career he focused on counterterrorism missions in the Middle East and the Far East and operationalized many of today’s concepts for this unique arena while working the sand dunes of Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and a few other “choice” locations. When Colonel Angley retired in 2007, he was a Senior Supervisory Special Agent and was in command of all worldwide OSI matters at Air Force Space Command in Colorado Springs, CO.

Mike Angley is also a published, award-winning author of three thriller novels in the “Child Finder” trilogy. His debut novel, “Child Finder,” received a glowing review from the Library Journal which placed it on its Summer Reading list in 2009. “Child Finder” and its companion sequel novels all won various awards from the Military Writers Society of America (MWSA) and the Public Safety Writers Association. In 2012, Mike was named MWSA’s “Author of the Year,” largely for work on his third novel, “Child Finder: Revelation.”

As an avid user of social media, Mike can be found and friended on Facebook (mike.angley) and followed on Twitter (@MikeAngley). His website is Following his USAF retirement, Mike and his family stayed in Colorado Springs, CO where they enjoy daily, majestic views of Pikes Peak and the Rocky Mountains.
